The Great Androscoggin River Wildlife Adventure

During the summer months, Sayward will be found at his cottage on the lake in Woodstock, Maine where he enjoys carving, fishing, hunting, canoeing and writing. Sayward is one of the finest wood carvers around and builds strip canoes and custom paddles. His love for the outdoors is shared with all of us in his writings.

In the winter, he spends his time in Plant City, Florida sneaking up on alligators.

The book, “Deer Tails and Other Tales”, consists of forty-three individual true stories of hunting, fishing, and related events experienced by the author, his relatives and friends over a period of sixty-five years. Sayward began writing these stories back in 1999, when he realized they were an important part of his life and would be lost forever, unless they were recorded for
posterity.

Eighty stories were eventually amassed but he edited out all but the most interesting and memorable events. They are humorous, unbelievable, factual and informational. Some are even frightening. He hopes they make interesting reading.

Sayward is also a staff writer for the online sporting magazines Maine Hunting Today, Maine Fishing Today and U.S. Hunting Today. During the summer he resides at his cottage on North Pond, in Woodstock, Maine and winters in Plant City, Florida. He is a Maine native, born in Rangeley, but was brought up and attended school in West Paris.

Sayward, a very gifted and talented individual, enjoys woodworking and has built furniture, wooden boats, and both traditional and cedar strip canoes. He crafts hand-hewn canoe paddles.

He is an avid hunter and makes his own cedar box calls and slate calls he uses for turkey hunting. He loves fishing and fly-fishing is his preference. He ties his own trout flies.

When he isn’t doing all of these things, he also enjoys woodcarving and has received several awards at carving shows in Maine and Florida.
